What happens in the first appointment?
The first appointment is typically a time to get things off your chest. It can be relieving to talk to someone outside of family and friends who does not have a vested interest. In general, you will get the chance to talk about the problems being experienced, the background to these problems, and future challenges on the horizon. We discuss how we can make sense of the problem through the lens of behavioural science and what we think we can start to do to address the problem. Any subsequent sessions are spent on the tasks of gaining insight into oneself, the situations faced, and what can be done to change and accept issues at hand. Typically by the end of the first session, you will have an idea of how the problem could be addressed in a short term and also through a more thorough approach.
